HISTORY

SO PEOPLE FAR FROM GOD CAN BE NEAR TO GOD THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST

Jesus had a passion for invitation (Matthew 11:28). Our desire is to be a church where people feel like they BELONG. We think an invitation to experience the presence of Jesus will lead people to BELIEVE in Him and BECOME what God has called them to be!

Calvary Church began on Saturday, February 9th, 1985 in a small home meeting in Elizabethton, Tennessee. God quickly blessed this small beginning by providing us with temporary facilities on Main Street in Elizabethton. We were there only a few months when we were blessed with our first property on North Roan Street in January 1986. Families began coming from all around the region to our small facility, so we began searching for property central to the Tri-Cities. That search led us to relocate to our current location in Johnson City.

Calvary is now a growing church, full of people from so many different backgrounds. Our music is contemporary and full of God's Spirit. The preaching is practical and powerful. Our kids and student ministries are so fun and led by people who love to serve families. Our volunteers are friendly and the atmosphere is casual. Come to church a few minutes early, meet someone new, and enjoy a coffee on the house.

From the first home meeting in 1985 to the present day, we have experienced the continued favor of God year after year!
